SULAIMANI – Turkish warplanes shelled a number of villages in the Kurdistan Region on January 18 cutting power to dozens of villages.
NRT correspondent Ramal Ahmed said four Turkish jets bombarded the villages of Khwakurk, Ari, Bn Diwana, Gali Khwakurk and Gali Zraranyan in the Sidakan sub-district, northeast of the Kurdistan Region’s capital of Erbil.
The correspondent added that the strikes had caused power cuts in 30 villages in the sub-district.
Ahmed also said the warplanes bombarded several other villages in the foothills of the Qandil Mountains in the Kurdistan Region.
The Turkish military said in a statement that Turkish jets targeted eight PKK positions during the operation on the Qandil Mountains.
However, local sources said that areas hit by Turkish jets were civilian settlements and there were no PKK positions.
