Three Turkish soldiers killed in clashes with Kurdish forces in Diyarbakir

AMED, – One Turkish soldier was killed on Feb. 24 in the Sur district of southeastern province of Diyarbakır during clashes with Kurdish fighters, the Turkish General Staff has announced, in addition to another soldier who has succumbed to his injuries 12 days after an attack in the same district.

Specialized Sergeant Osman Kaplan was heavily wounded in an armed attack on Feb. 24 and later died in hospital at around 11 p.m. despite all efforts from medical staff, Turkish army said in a statement issued on its website.

In addition, Specialized Sergeant M. Hakan Kaçar, who was wounded during clashes in the district, succumbed to his injuries on Feb. 24, the General Staff stated.

Meanwhile, another soldier succumbed to wounds sustained in a Feb. 8 PKK attack while being treated at the Gülhane Military Academy (GATA) in Ankara.

While the statement did not disclose the soldier’s identity, a Doğan News Agency report suggested he was Specialized Sgt. Yetkin Erşan.
