HAKKARI (ANF) – Kurdish mayors of Hakkari Municipality were arrested today by Turkish police.
Co-mayors Dilek Hatipoğlu and Nurullah Çiftçi, who were not found home during a recent police raid, were accompanied by representatives of NGOs supporting them at the courthouse.
While police and special operation teams took intense ‘security’ measures around the area, co-mayors were detained by police and taken to Hakkari Police Headquarters upon an order by the governor.
In the meantime, detention operations in the city are also going on. A 22-year-old youth by the name of Kadir Saklı was detained in city center and taken to police HQ today.
