Iraqi forces recapture Samara from ISIS, kill 150 terrorists: spokesman

Iraqi security forces backed by US airstrikes have recaptured the town of Samara in an ongoing offensive in northern Bagdad, 150 fighters of the Islamic State terror group (ISIS) were killed, Iraq’s defense ministry officials said on Thursday.

Yahiya Abdul Rasoul, the spokesman of the defense ministry told reporters that several ISIS armored vehicles were also destroyed.

According to the central command of government forces in Samara, Iraqi ground forces and federal police were backed by US-led coalition forces in the fight for Samara. However, it is not clear whether Shia militias supported by Iran took part in the operation.
